The Wesleyan tradition of the United Methodist Church uses the theological basis of scripture, tradition, reason and experience to understand our faith. We seek to transform individuals through the power of God's grace and transform the world through acts of love and service.
Of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit: We believe God, who is one, is revealed in 3 distinct persons. We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection demonstrate God's redeeming love. We believe the Holy Spirit is God's present activity in our midst.
Of the Bible: We believe that the Bible is the word of God. It is the primary authority for our faith and practice.
Of God's Reign: We believe the kingdom of God is both a present reality and future hope.
Of Human Beings: We believe that each person is created in the image of God, with the capacity to love, care, communicate and create
Of the Church: We believe the church is the body of Christ and is the extension of his life and ministry in the world today.
Of Sin: We believe that sin is the corruption of the nature of every person and which we can only be made righteous through the Lord Jesus Christ. Though good works are pleasing to God, they can not put away our sins.
Of the Sacraments: We believe the sacraments are tokens of a Christian's profession and signs of God's grace and goodwill towards us. We believe in an open table of the Lord, as it is a sacrament of our redemption by Christ's death, which is available to all believers.
Of Sanctification: We believe in the renewal of our fallen nature by the Holy Spirit, through faith in Jesus Christ whose blood is atonement for our sins through which we are delivered through grace,
Of Marriage: While not a sacrament in our tradition, We believe marriage is a sacred covenant which reflects God's covenant with the Church. We affirm that this covenant can be made between two consenting adults.
Of Human Sexuality: We believe that sexuality is a sacred gift and believe in the nurturing of relationships that foster well being and are grounded in love, care and respect. We support the rights of all people to make decisions about their own bodies and to be free from violence and exploitation.
